For this demonstration I have used a Lunker City Sluggo 4.5inch, a Decoy Rock Fish Worm hook size 1/0, a small split ring and a bomb lead.
This is a rig that is not widely used among anglers but one which I have been having great success on recently when targeting Wrasse. If you want to try something different, this is certainly one to consider.
The first thing you will notice when using this rig is that you can feel the bottom quite clearly because, unlike the Texas rig, the lead contacts the bottom firmly each time. The Jika rig also allows your chosen soft plastic to sit perpendicular to the weight offering a different presentation style.
What you need:
- Soft plastic of choice
- Weed less hook to match the lure size
- Small split ring
- Bomb lead (various weights usually between 3 -12g)
Take your soft plastic rigged with a weed less hook – see ‘Weed less soft plastic rigging’ for instructions.
Now attach your split ring to the bomb lead.
Attach the rigged soft plastic to the small split rig and bomb lead. Once it is in place it should look like this.
You then just attach your leader to the split ring so that the bomb lead sits perpendicular with the lure.
Give it a go and be sure to let me know how you get on.
