- Cone lead or Egg weight – Weight to suit depth and current.
- Bead – Glass or plastic to add attraction and vibration and protect knot.
- Small swivel – To attach mainline to fluorocarbon.
- Wide gape, weed less hook – Size to match lure.
Before tying your leader on, take your weight of choice and thread it onto the main line, followed by the bead. Now attach your mainline to one end of the swivel. Take your length of fluorocarbon and attach one end to the remaining loop on the swivel and the weed less hook to the end of the leader. See diagram for details.
This rig is most effective when fished with buoyant soft plastics – by this I mean soft plastics which have a tendency to float, for example certain soft plastics will have hollow bodies or air chambers in them. What this rig allows you to do is create an anchor point, i.e. the weight on the bottom but still allows the lure to move un-impeded by the weight. If you use a more buoyant lure you can raise it off the bottom creating a more visible meal for a curious Wrasse.
